Bio
Juuso Rinta is a jazz double bassist and composer based in Helsinki, Finland. The vast tradition of jazz is an endless inspiration to Juuso both as a musician and as a composer. As a bass player he is interested in getting the most out of the earthy, acoustic sound of the double bass and infusing his personality into the outcome.
He has performed with most of the top jazz musicians in Finland and has, in addition to Finland, performed around Europe in Norway, Poland, Germany, Italy, Estonia and more. In addition to Europe, Juuso has performed abroad in New York City, New Jersey and Los Angeles.
In 2018 Rinta was awarded the Erik Lindström foundation’s grant for a study trip to New York and a year later, in 2019, he got a scholarship from Sibelius-Academy to study at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York for a full year. Now Juuso is back in Helsinki where he maintains a busy performing schedule.
Juuso Rinta is an active and versatile performer in the Helsinki jazz scene. His playing can be heard in groups such as Anabasís, which features compositions written by Rinta as well as pianist Joonas Haavisto, Hector Lepe 4 that just recorded their first full-length album, Kadi Vija Trio, Ilmari Rönkä Ulappa, Jonas Metsäkylä Trio, Linear John, Silva Kallionpää Quartet and Second Wind Quintet. In addition to these groups, Juuso is an active and a sought-after freelance musician.
Juuso Rinta on Helsingissä asuva jazz-kontrabasisti ja säveltäjä. Hän on aktiivinen ja monipuolinen muusikko, ja lukuisten freelance-keikkojen lisäksi hänen soittoaan voi kuulla hänen oman yhtyeensä lisäksi mm. yhtyeissä Hector Lepe 4, Kadi Vija Trio, Linear John, Silva Kallionpää Quartet, Jonas Metsäkylä Trio ja Ilmari Rönkä Ulappa.
Viime vuosien aikana Juuso on esiintynyt useimpien Suomen eturivin jazz-muusikoiden kanssa, ja kotimaan klubi- ja festivaalikeikkojen lisäksi esiintymisiä on kertynyt ulkomailla mm. New Yorkissa, Los Angelesissa, New Jerseyssä, Saksassa, Italiassa, Puolassa sekä Baltian maissa.
Vuonna 2018 Juuso sai Erik Lindström -säätiön apurahan New Yorkiin suuntautuvalle opintomatkalle, ja vuotta myöhemmin, vuonna 2019, hänet hyväksyttiin vaihto-opiskelijaksi New Yorkin maineikkaaseen Manhattan School of Musiciin. Hän vietti lukuvuoden 2019-2020 New Yorkissa opiskellen mm. Jay Andersonin, John Rileyn, Phil Markowitzin ja Miguel Zenonin kanssa. Manhattan School of Musicin lisäksi Rinta on opiskellut Sibelius-Akatemian jazz-osastolla, Metropolia Ammattikorkeakoulussa sekä Jyväskylän konservatoriolla.
